ALBANY, N.Y. (WKBW) — New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) has launched its own website to track COVID-19 safety concerns at schools in the state.

The tracker runs independently and separately from New York State's School COVID-19 Report Card. While the state's report card tracks positive cases in districts and within individual schools, the NYSUT tracker allows school staff and community members to report safety concerns.

At NYSUTCovidTracker.org, the community can report safety issues regarding cleaning and disinfecting, mask policies, ventilation, and district communication. The tracker collects information including the district, school, and position of the person reporting the issue. Community members can also view all safety reports made around the state on an interactive map.

By 1 p.m. on its first day of launch, the tracker had 28 safety reports.

In a statement, NYSUT President Andy Pallotta said, "though we know some districts are working closely with their staffs to put health and safety first, problems still exist around the state. By empowering educators and community members to report their concerns, it’s our hope that we can elevate the voices of those who otherwise may go unheard.”
