BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Now that Buffalo is the confirmed home of the Toronto Blue Jays for the shortened 2020 season, Western New Yorkers are embracing the squad in a myriad of ways.
Ryan Kominiarek was just a Blue Jays fan looking to find other Toronto backers in the Buffalo area. So in January, he started a new Twitter account: @BuffaloBlueJays.
"So, I just made a handle, and then the season didn't start," Kominiarek said. "And then they came to Buffalo, and I happened to have the handle, and it's been blowing up lately."
Kominiarek would've used the handle regardless of whether or not the Blue Jays migrated to Sahlen Field. 26Shirts, on the other hand, went back and forth just like the team did.
"We started thinking about it when we found out that we weren't going to play in Pittsburgh, but then we saw that they were going to try to play in Baltimore, so we just officially scrapped it," 26Shirts founder Del Reid said. "And then with the news coming down so quickly [Friday] morning, we just got to work."
The work produced a hat, a t-shirt, and a long sleeve shirt that replaces the bird in the Blue Jays logo with a Buffalo head. A portion of the proceeds will benefit both American and Canadian causes.
They'll continue to be on sale until Tuesday. You can find more of 26Shirts products here.
