BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — In one week Bills Mafia raised over $650,000 for Oishei Children's Hospital in honor of Josh Allen's grandmother, Patricia Allen, who passed away prior to the Bills game against the Seattle Seahawks on November 8.
Allen revealed that his grandmother died the night before the game and Bills fans responded to the news by making $17 donations to Oishei. He has long been a supporter of Oishei Children's Hospital, and has worked to raise money for the hospital.
This act of good garnered attention from across the country, Arizona Cardinals fans took notice following their win over the Bills on Sunday and decided to contribute to the cause.
A Reddit post from after the game said:
"I know we're in full blown meme-mode and all ecstatic with our last second win, but I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge the Bills Mafia. On our subreddit and on theirs, in the game thread and post-game thread, they've been a class act. Between that, how they've responded to Josh Allen losing his grandmother, and their donations to Andy Dalton's charity, I think we should recognize their fanbase and contribute to a great cause.
If you can afford it in these tough times, please consider making a gift to the John R. Oishei Children's Hospital."
The hospital responded to the donations on Twitter thanking Cardinals fans for joining in.
Wow, thank you Cardinals fans for joining in our support of @JoshAllenQB honoring Patricia Allen through donations to our hospital! https://t.co/nswbbYxA20
