Jim Baron is sticking around at Canisius.

7 Eyewitness Sports Anchor Shawn Stepner has learned the Golden Griffins head men's basketball coach has signed a 3-year contract extension.  The new deal runs through the 2019-20 season.  His current contract was set to expire after the 2016-17 season.

As part of this new agreement, longtime Baron assistant coach Pat Clarke has been promoted to Associate Head Coach.  It is not believed there is an official "coach in waiting" status for Clarke.

Baron is currently in his fourth season leading the Griffs.  He has a 72-60 record.

Canisius is 13-18 this season with a 8-12 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.  They are the No. 7 seed in the MAAC Tournament and face No. 10 Niagara on Thursday night in Albany.
