For the first time since the 2012 season, the Buffalo State women's basketball team has won a postseason game.

On Tuesday, the 6th seed Lady Bengals upset 3rd seed Cortland 54-51 in the SUNYAC quarterfinals to advance to the semifinal round.

The Bengals fell behind 9-0 early but cut the deficit to 18-12 after the end of the first quarter. After a 9-0 run of their own to start the second quarter, the Bengals led things 28-25 at the half. They would never trail after that.

Freshman Katie Villarini, a Hamburg native, led the Bengals with 16 points, two of those were late free throws to help seal the win. Liv LeBaron added 12 points while Caleh McLean had nine points and nine rebounds.

The Bengals are now 13-13 on the year, their most wins in a season since the 2013-2014 season.

Next up is 2nd seed Oneonta on Friday at 5:30 p.m at Geneseo, the top seed in the conference. The winner will advance to the SUNYAC Finals that are set to be played the following day.
