Hamburg's Schum ready for NFL debut

Posted

Down in Tampa there will be an NFL debut on Sunday made by a guy with a lot on the line. No, we're not talking about Jameis Winston.

Jake Schum will take the field for the first time in a National Football League regular season game. The Hamburg native and former University at Buffalo punter made his first NFL roster since leaving the Bulls in 2011.

After spending time bouncing around the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets organizations, his time has come to suit up on Sunday.

“It's been a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. This is a dream that I have had since I was a little kid,” said Schum from his hotel room in Tampa. “I told myself that I was going to make it one way or another and just kept pushing, didn't take no for an answer. It's just kind of an awesome feeling that all this work is finally paid off."

Schum’s Buccaneers open the season Sunday against Tennessee.
