AMHERST, NY (WKBW) — University at Buffalo men's basketball coach Jim Whitesell will miss the next few games. According to the school, Whitesell came in close contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19. He's going to self-quarantine, despite testing negative this past week.
In a statement Whitesell said, "We have been very fortunate all of our players, myself, and assistant coaches have continuously tested negative since October when we began our multiple testing that is required. I am incredibly thankful for the ability to test and UB’s commitment to our student-athletes during this time. Our medical staff has worked very diligently to keep everyone safe. While I am very disappointed not being able to be with our players, I know they are in good care. Our assistant coaching staff is fantastic, and I am confident they will have this team well prepared."
Whitesell coached from the stands in the team's win over Mercyhurst over the weekend, while assistant Angres Thorpe took over duties on the bench.
The Bulls are scheduled to play three games over the next two weeks. They host Miami (OH) this Tuesday, visit Syracuse on Saturday, and visit St. Bonaventure next Tuesday.
