University at Buffalo football cruises past UMass 34-3 in historic afternoon

The Associated Press - Marquis Cooper returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown, the Buffalo defense allowed just 193 total yards and the Bulls defeated Massachusetts 34-3 on Saturday.

The Bulls (2-1) dominated the second half, scoring 24 points highlighted by Cooper's pick-6 in which he caught the ball several yards deep in the end zone and raced up the right sideline for a score that made it 27-3 in the third quarter. Quarterback CJ Ogbonna and Lamar Sperling had short touchdown runs.

Ogbonna was 14-for-22 passing for 185 yards and Sperling had 86 yards on the ground.

Taisun Phommachanh completed 14 of 29 passes for 121 yards for UMass. He threw one interception.

The Minutemen (0-3) were outgained 314 yards to 193.

The Bulls took a 7-0 lead on their first possession, driving 85 yards in six plays. The score came on a 40-yard pass from Ogbonna to JJ Jenkins. Ogbonna hit Victor Snow for 31 yards earlier in the drive.

Buffalo added a field goal for a 10-0 lead and had a 10-3 advantage at halftime after the Minutemen missed two field goals in the half.
