The Western New York high school boys hockey federation finals are officially set.
On Wednesday, West Seneca East came away with the most memorable victory of all the games at HARBORCENTER in downtown Buffalo. The seventh-seeded Trojans took top-seeded Williamsville East to double overtime before Tyler Arndt powered through and ripped the game-winner home.
West Seneca East got the 3-2 victory and provided the tournament's biggest celebration yet, getting them into the Small School Final.
They'll move on to face Kenmore West, who collected a 1-0 victory over Hamburg on Wednesday as well. The Blue Devils were the fourth-seed in the tournament and provided an upset of their own over the second-seeded Bulldogs.
On Tuesday in the Large School Semifinals, Niagara Falls did everything they could -- including 43 saves from goaltender Patrick Sisler -- but couldn't stand up to the offensive firepower from Williamsville North. North, the top seed, won 5-0 to advance to the Final.
In a battle of black, white, and red schools, fourth-seeded Lancaster managed to upend Niagara-Wheatfield, the three seed. The Legends collected a 3-1 victory, and will meet Williamsville North in next week's final.
