In just a few months Buffalo will welcome its newest professional sports team, the Buffalo Blitz, who will play in the Can-Am Indoor Football League.
The Blitz are the tenth team to join the league and will begin their 2017 season in March. Buffalo's first home game is scheduled for Saturday, April 8.
Can-Am football shares similarities to National Football League, but there's also plenty of differences. The Indoor game is played on a hockey rink, which is approximately 55 yards long, as opposed to a 100 yard NFL field. Here's a further explanation of all the rules.
The Blitz will play four home games this season, all at Buffalo RiverWorks. Tickets will start at $10. RiverWorks said the venue will be able to accommodate 2,500 fans for games.
"We really want to have local people here because you know, you grow up when you're a little kid and you have a dream of playing football but you don't quite make it to the NFL," Blitz co-owner John Augustine said. "[Maybe] you played some high school, some college, now we're giving you an opportunity to play another form of professional football, arena football, and we want to do it in front of the home fans."
The Blitz will hold tryouts for their team on Sunday, January 29 at the ADPRO Sports Center in Orchard Park from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. If you're interested in trying out you can call 716-444-7716 or send an email to jaug16@gmail.com.
