The long wait is over for the Buffalo Sabres.
After three-plus months of featuring a tandem of Chad Johnson and Linus Ullmark in net, top goaltender Robin Lehner is finally ready for a return to action. The Sabres recalled Lehner after a three-game conditioning stint in Rochester, which paves the way for his first action in a game since the regular season opener in early October.
Lehner suffered a high ankle sprain against the Ottawa Senators in October, and was originally given a timetable of 6-10 weeks before he could return. According to head coach Dan Bylsma, the Sabres could feature the top netminder between the pipes in one of the two games over the weekend, either Friday night against Boston, or Saturday against Washington.
To make room, the Sabres sent Ullmark back down to Rochester, and will pair Lehner with Johnson as the two goalies on the NHL roster. Over his three games with the Amerks, Lehner went 1-2, with a 3.36 goals against average, and an .888 save percentage.
