NIAGARA FALLS, NY (WKBW) — Another sporting event in Western New York has been put on hold. The Porter Cup Executive Committee announced Wednesday that this year’s Senior Porter Cup has been canceled. The event was scheduled for September 9th-11th at Niagara Falls Country Club.
The committee states ongoing travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic as the cause. With the U.S. and Canada border closure to non-essential travel and New York continuing to add states to the travel advisory, the tournament stood to lose approximately 8- players.
“We were really looking forward to this year’s event as we were planning a tribute to the late Fred Silver but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be.” Senior Porter Cup Tournament Co-Director PJ Alterio said.
Silver, the Senior Porter Cup founder and previous Tournament Director, passed away October 9th.
Similar to the Women’s and Men’s Porter Cup, the Senior event is scheduled to resume in 2021.
