ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) — The snowmaking machines at Holiday Valley will start up on Tuesday night.
The ski resort's Director of Mountain Operations, Steve Crowley, made the announcement early Monday afternoon.
Cold temperatures expected Tuesday night make it an ideal time to start making snow. The crews will focus on limited runs on Yodeler, Mardi Gras and the Candy Cane loop. The resort hopes to stockpile snow in its core area in the coming days. Its target opening date is Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving.
Last year, Holiday Valley opened on November 23.
This year, the resort and the surrounding Village of Ellicottville face a new challenge due to COVID-19. The border between the U.S. and Canada remains closed, but businesses in the village are hoping locals can bridge the revenue gap left by Canadian tourists.
