BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — So far this winter season our coldest high temperature, at the Buffalo Airport, is 20 degrees (January 17), and our coldest low temperature is 10 degrees (December 19).
This will most likely be changing on Friday. The forecast high on Friday is 14 degrees and the forecast low is 6. The last time our temperatures fell into the single digits was March 8th, 2019, that's 343 days ago!
An area of low pressure will bring a widespread snow to the region on Thursday. It's early for accumulation projections, but several models suggesting 2 to 5" totals across the area. This snow will add to our above-normal February snow totals.
Late Thursday night, an arctic front will blast through WNY, ushering in the coldest air of the season. We'll see lake effect snow develop since Lake Erie and Lake Ontario are still mostly ice-free. Not only can we expect lake effect snow but, the potential is there for a flash-freeze early Friday. Temperatures will drop quickly and any standing water will become ice quickly Friday morning.
